This data set contains lands withdrawn or withdrawn conditionally by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The Land Status attributes are a snapshot of the Land Information System Database and are only accurate as that database. The data is produced to the aliquot part where possible and to the section (square mile) level where aliquot part is not available in the database record. Where aliquot parts are not available, the data is generalized to the section level. Also USS and Rectangular survey data has not been integrated into the process. At this time, all positions are as calculated or as derived from the township and section protraction. "Aliquot" is a Latin word meaning to divide (a number or a quantity, or in our case, a piece of land) into equal parts leaving no remainder. In legal descriptions, only quarter or half divisions of a section of land are known as aliquot parts. An aliquot part is always described in relation to the four points of the compass, with the use of the standard compass abbreviations, N, W, S, and E . |
